If you need a new netbook for uni, and familiar with Linux this is a fantastic buy for your money. Its got really good memory for a netbook and looks pretty funky too. It arrived very quickly, had a few problems gettin it going but thats coz I hadnt charged it, so give it a good 24 hours charge before you turn it on, but dispite that its fabulous. It even fits in my hand bag so I don't need to carry round a laptop bag or anything :) -- Fabulous purchase
The Acer Aspire One is a fantastic netbook - it's also much better if you're planning to change the operating system on it.

Out of the box it comes with Linpus installed - this is a very basic version of Linux - it's great for an absolute beginner, as you can't do anything wrong, but anyone wishing to add to the machine in terms of software will find it restrictive and frustrating.

I've updated my machine to run Ubuntu and it's amazing. This has actually become my main use machine and travels everywhere with me. -- Great machine, awful OS
I have always been a fan of Acer laptops. I've had 2 myself and recommended them to many a friend and business acquaintance. The Aspire One has done nothing to change my mind on this.

Whilst the actual specifications of the unit are not that unique from other netbooks available, the build quality and style of this is. It is very sleek and stylish and is extremely portable with a slim profile and light weight. The screen quality is very high and it in no way feels cut down or compromised, in spite of a reduced colour depth of 262K colours, compared to a desktop LCD monitor for example. This is fairly common in laptops and netbooks however so nothing unique to this one. The keyboard feels tactile and the keys, whilst compact are easy to locate and use. My mother who is a trained touch-typist has no trouble using it as such and doesn't find herself looking down much. Likewise, the trackpad is responsive and easy to use.

I was pleased to see the familiar sound hardware in the Aspire One and generally found the look and feel of this to be much the same as my larger Aspire laptop. The device in no way feels sluggish and that is with Windows XP Pro installed, which was very straight-forward to do (with a USB CD drive plugged in). I would highly recommend this for casual users, web browsers, office application uses and even business presentations. It happily plays from BBC iPlayer in full screen on a 1024i HD TV without jerking so even media use is within its capabilities. It is not however suitable for gaming use, the graphics system is just not up to that.

My one criticism having taken this apart (literally!) to upgrade the memory, is that Acer could have easily provided an access panel to allow SODIMM memory modules to be added by simply unscrewing a cover on the bottom of the laptop. I suspect that their reason for not doing so is purely to make sure you have to buy the more expensive models from them, or a reseller, rather than get the cheapest version and upgrade yourself with cheap SODIMM modules. -- Fantastic netbook, a sturdy and well-designed Acer machine
This product is perfect for portable use and has a surprisingly large memory storage. Operates on Linux, which is easy to use (for those used to Windows). Ultimately this is a great offer, a fantastic price. -- Acer Aspire One Notebook
Great product. Very usable linux OS, needs a bit of knowledge to set it up properly to obtain all u need. Most programs are available from official acer one website with simply double click, as happen for windows. I would recomennd, even if the Battery life a bit limited (around 2 hours. For these characteristics the price should decrease considering the actual hardware concurrence (for this reason 4 stars). -- Acer aspire a150-ab
